Observing Matariki in the early morning sky
Makotukutuku – Cape Wanbrow Lookout.
Damien McNamara will lead a guided stargazing and Justin Tipa (Kaiwhakahaere - Te Rūnanga o Moeraki) will share kōrero and karakia as part of acknowledging the heliacal rising of Matariki. Waitaki District Library staff will lead waiata and there will be an opportunity for all participants to reflect on the year that has been and look forward to the promise of the new year. Followed by hot soup and buns.
Please dress warmly, wear sensible footwear and bring a small torch. If weather conditions prove to be too extreme to be outdoors, we will be hosting the karakia and waiata in the Scottish Hall at 10 Tyne Street, followed by hot soup and buns. Updates will be posted on the Waitaki District Council Facebook page.
