Proposed District Plan
About the Proposed District Plan
We’re reviewing and updating our District Plan. The Waitaki District Plan is the community’s rulebook, setting out how land use and development is managed within our district. It has a major role in shaping Waitaki's future and sets out a framework for managing natural and physical resources in the district.
The District Plan's rules set out what activities you can do as of right (permitted activities) and what activities you'll need a resource consent for. These rules cover things like residential development, subdivision of land, the height and location of buildings, commercial and industrial developments, noise and protecting heritage values.
The submission period has now closed. A summary of submissions will be available for further submissions in 2026. Waitaki District Council has been granted an exemption by the Minister Responsible for RMA Reform to continue with certain parts of the Proposed Waitaki District Plan (PDP). Please click here to view the public notice and click here for more information on this process. An Exemptions Version of the Proposed Waitaki District Plan is now available below.
Submissions were open from 1 March 2025 and close on 16 May 2025.
