Sale of property

If you have sold your property you are liable for all rates due at the time of sale.

If you receive a Rates Assessment Invoice still in your name after you've sold the property, it may mean that Council has not received notification of sale. Please advise your solicitor to issue the appropriate notification as soon as possible and redirect this assessment.

  • For direct debit customers, when Council receives a notification of sale, your direct debit will automatically be cancelled.
  • If you have an automatic payment set up to pay your rates, you will need to ensure that this has been cancelled with your bank.
  • If you have purchased another property and use electronic banking to make payments, you will need to ensure that the payment reference details have been changed to that of your new property. This will ensure the payment is correctly receipted.
