Rubbish, Recycling, Waste Minimisation

One of the greatest challenges we face as a District and Council is our waste. Aotearoa New Zealand generates some of the highest rates of waste per person in the world and it is increasing. Each of us, on average, produces three times more rubbish than we did 20 years ago.

We use too much, we waste too much and we pollute too much. This has an impact on our environment and our future. But we can do better.

Waitaki District Council wants to work towards a waste-free Waitaki aspiration. It starts with all of us – we can look after our resources, respect our environment and make choices so we waste less. Simple changes we make can cost us less in the long run, create less greenhouse gas emissions, reduce the impact on the environment and preserve resources for future generations.
