Waitaki Heritage Fund

​​ The Waitaki Heritage Fund was established by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust (now known as Heritage New Zealand) and the Waitaki District Council in 1992. It replaces the North Otago Heritage Fund.

The purpose of the fund is to encourage the retention, preservation, conservation and maintenance of historic buildings and sites in the Waitaki District.

Who can apply for the funding?

You can apply for assistance if you are the owner of an historic building in the Waitaki District or own land upon which an historic site is located. Priority will be given to assist with buildings owned by groups or organisations.

What can you apply for?

The Committee will give preference to projects involving:

  • Archaeological and traditional sites 

  • Buildings in any historic area identified by Heritage New Zealand together with buildings in any townscape zone identified in the Waitaki District Plan. 

  • Buildings with Heritage New Zealand classifications and/or listed in the Waitaki District Plan. 

  • Other buildings and places the Committee considers worth the assistance.

Preference will be given to assisting projects that restore or strength the fabric of historic buildings or protect and conserve archaeological sites. The Committee will consider projects to refurbish historic buildings if the work is likely to aid preservation and conservation of the building.
