The New Zealand String Quartet is coming to The Grainstore Gallery in Oamaru and they’re inviting everyone, including those who have never been to a chamber music concert before, to experience an evening of creativity, connection and unforgettable musical storytelling. This concert offers a warm introduction to the world of live string quartet music. You don’t need any musical background to enjoy it, just curiosity and a willingness to sit back and soak in the atmosphere. The programme, titled Anthology, celebrates the power of stories told without words, featuring a mix of classical favourites, contemporary voices, and New Zealand creativity - including Universal Veil, a piece by Mika Cornelius, a young Kiwi composer, written especially for the NZSQ in 2025. The rest of the programme will explore Franz Schubert’s 10th string quartet, beloved New Zealand composer Gareth Farr’s Mondo Rondo, Dvorak’s lush American Quartet and the nostalgic sounds of ancient Scandinavia with the Danish String Quartets acclaimed album, Last Leaf.
