Community Screening

Celebrating Ōamaru’s starring role in East of Eden

A special community screening of Netflix’sEast of Eden

When Netflix’s East of Eden came to Ōamaru, our streets, buildings and landscapes became part of a major international production - and our community became part of the story too.

As the series launched around the world, Waitaki District Council, Ōamaru Whitestone Civic Trust and Tourism Waitaki invited the Waitaki community to come together and celebrate.

A special community screening of episode 6 of Netflix’sEast of Eden was held at the Ōamaru Opera House on Wednesday 7 October 2026.

We offered 50 double passes to the screening through a public ballot.

Take a look through the gallery below for some highlights from the screening, and see if you can spot yourself, your friends or a few familiar faces!
