Kāinga Ora

Kāinga Ora is New Zealand’s public housing provider, responsible for delivering and managing public (state) housing and providing tenancy services for people living in Kāinga Ora homes.

Eligibility for public housing and access to emergency housing are assessed by Work and Income, the public service arm of the Ministry of Social Development.

Services available include:

• Provision and management of public (state) housing
• Tenancy services for people living in Kāinga Ora homes
• Information to support understanding of public housing processes
• Delivery of public housing and wider community housing developments.

People seeking public housing or emergency housing must contact Work and Income to complete a housing needs assessment.
