This week, at an Additional Meeting of the Waitaki District Council, Councillors considered the Draft Economic Development Strategy and agreed to adopt the draft plan.

Called Uplifting Waitaki: Hāpaitia te Waitaki, the purpose of the review is to develop a clear and focused Economic Development Strategy for the district that is evidence based and has the engagement and support of stakeholders.

Polis Consulting Group were appointed in December 2021 to develop the strategy with Waitaki District Council and Te Rūnanga o Moeraki.

“The Council commissioned the development of a strategy and review of economic development delivery arrangements, including tourism, to ensure resources are well used and delivery arrangements optimised.” said Chief Executive, Alex Parmley.

This is an ambitious programme to deliver both sustainable and inclusive growth over the next ten years that is at least 8% over projected growth.

The next steps are for the Waitaki District Council to engage with key businesses and stakeholders who will be key to the delivery of the new plan.
