With two weeks to go until the deadline for nominations, potential candidates are being reminded not to leave it too late.

Nominations for Mayoral, Council, Community Board and Oamaru Licensing Trust elections close at midday on Friday 1 August 2025.

Getting your nominations in before then allows all of the information to be checked, and any issues resolved, before the deadline.

Nomination forms can be found on Councils election page, here. The site also provides essential information for potential candidates, including the Candidate Information Handbook and the Pre-Election Report.

Anyone standing for local body elections must be a New Zealand citizen, over 18 years of age, and be on the Parliamentary Electoral Roll. They must be nominated by two people who are in the Ward that the candidate is standing for, who are also on the Parliamentary Electoral Roll.

Roles to be filled in October’s elections are:

• Mayor

• Councillors (10)

o Ahuriri Ward (1)

o Oamaru Ward (6)

o Waihemo Ward (1)

o Corriedale Ward (2)

• Ahuriri Community Board (5)

• Waihemo Community Board (5)

• Oamaru Licensing Trust (5)

If you are considering standing, please complete and submit your nominations as soon as possible. A public list of candidates who have completed their nominations is available of the Electionz.com website
