If you’re looking to get something built, then Waitaki is one of the best places in the country to get your consent processed in Q1 2025 – according to the Building Research Association of New Zealand (BRANZ).
Data from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment shows it takes a median of 6 working days for building consents to be approved in the Waitaki District. This places our district on the podium with Carterton (5), Buller (5) and Kapiti Coast (also 6).
This news follows extremely positive responses regarding Council’s Building Team from the community in our engagement surveys, as well as an excellent International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) assessment – a four-day in-depth review of the teams processes, procedures and technical decisions.
Waitaki District Council’s Director of Natural & Built Environment, Roger Cook, says “Council knows that getting consents done quickly, and well, allows developers, businesses and homeowners to get things done and boost our local economy. We knew our building team is one of the best in the country, and we have the stats to prove it . As Council has transformed in the past year, there have been many changes – but this team has shown professionalism and dedication to the important work that they do.”
Transformation also means the community can make their applications for building consents even faster thanks to Council’s new One Stop Shop page of online application forms, which offers both Building and Building consent options.
You can find the online forms on Council’s website: Apply for it | Waitaki District Council
