ROADING UPDATES

Annual Plans roads

Ōamaru’s Waterfront Road may close overnight as a precaution while safety assessments continue following recent flooding.

Geotech specialists were called in after Waitaki District Council’s Logistics Manager raised concerns about the stability of the clay embankment near the road. The recent flood event has increased the risk of a slip, which could affect the road corridor and the nearby private railway.

Council’s Recovery and Logistics managers have been working with NZTA, which has asked for the railway to remain closed until further assessment can be completed.

Council’s operations team has already reduced traffic to a single lane with priority give way in place. The road may be closed overnight if further assessments show that is the safest option. If a closure is put in place, the road will be reassessed tomorrow morning.

The Penguin Colony and Delmar have been advised of the situation. Road users are asked to take care, follow any temporary traffic management in place, and check the latest road conditions before travelling.

Also, the roading team has been out and about the district checking roads. Please see their afternoon report below:

McArther Rd - CLOSED AGAIN
Aitchison Rd - OPEN
Grey Rd - OPEN
Papakio Rd - OPEN

Ferry Rd by SH83 - OPEN
