At the full Council meeting on 28 May 2024, Waitaki District Councillors will consider agreements reached between Waitaki District Health Services Ltd (WDHSL) and Health NZ | Te Whatu Ora regarding the Ōamaru Hospital.
These agreements were approved at a WDHSL board meeting held last night and presented to Waitaki District Council as sole shareholder. There is a deadline of 29 May 2024 for a decision to be made, to ensure a smooth transition and uninterrupted services for the community at the Ōamaru Hospital.
Due to the very recent conclusion of negotiations between WDHSL and Health NZ, it has not been possible for Council to undertake a consultation on the agreements or the options Council will consider at the meeting on 28 May 2024. Council was prepared for a consultation, should negotiations have concluded with sufficient time for one to take place. Information about the agreement is available in the agenda on the Council website.
There will be further information and comment following the meeting on 28 May 2024. The meeting will be livestreamed.
