A bridge wash-out on Birchwood Road in Ahuriri last Friday afternoon, saw a united effort from Council, the local community and contractors to repair and reopen the road later the same evening.
Quick-thinking residents alerted Council to the river washing out a bridge approach early Friday afternoon, and other residents placed rocks before the bridge to ensure public safety.
Whitestone Contracting and Twizel-based firm Tricorp were soon on the scene, and with a local farmer allowing access to his quarry, the damage was repaired, and the road reopened within a few hours.
Council’s roading contractor will be undertaking further work along Birchwood Road – repairing scouring, clearing grates, and further inspection on the bridge this week.
Council appreciates the fast response from the community, our contractors and the cooperative and generous spirit from all those involved,
