Local Water Done Well – Decision Time

At an extraordinary meeting of the Waitaki District Council tomorrow, Tuesday 8 July, the Mayor and Councillors will decide which option they will progress for the delivery of Waitaki’s water services.

This option will then form Waitaki’s Water Services Delivery Plan (WSDP), to comply with the Government’s Local Water Done Well legislation.

Ministerial Letter - Local Water Done Well Reforms

In it, he sets out his expectations for Councils to work together on Local Water Done Well, emphasises the financial sustainability and regulation, and indicates he will not grant deadline extensions to Councils for delivering their plans on September 3 2025.

Clutha, Gore, Waitaki, and Central Otago district councils - who form Southern Water Done Well - will seek feedback on three options for water services delivery under the Government’s Local Water Done reform

Record-breaking submissions for Draft Long Term Plan

This year’s consultation on the Draft Long Term Plan has seen a record response from the Waitaki community with 650 submissions made during the four week process. The previous Long Term Plan submissions record was 487, set 15 years ago in 2012.

Waitaki to get Fit For The Future with the Draft Long Term Plan

The Mayor and Councillors approved the Draft Long Term Plan consultation document this week, setting out the next nine-years of budget, projects and plans for the Waitaki District Council.
The consultation document, titled “Fit For The Future” proposes an average rate rise for the Waitaki District of 10.3% in the 2025/26 year.
