Specialist Addiction Service (SAS)

Services include:

• Alcohol and other drug (AOD) assessment
• Individual counselling and case management
• Opioid substitution treatment (OST)
• Referral to medical withdrawal (detox) and residential addiction services
• Support for people with co‑existing mental health and addiction needs

Referral criteria:

• Primarily accessed via referral from a GP, hospital, or other health or social service
• Focused on people whose needs cannot be met through primary care alone
• Publicly funded for people eligible for New Zealand health services
