Oranga Tamariki

Oranga Tamariki is responsible for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children and young people where there are concerns about abuse, neglect, or serious harm.

Functions include:

• Responding to reports of concern about the safety of children and young people
• Working with whānau, caregivers, and other agencies to assess and address risk
• Convening Family Group Conferences
• Arranging care or protection where required under law
• Supporting care arrangements.

Oranga Tamariki is not a general support service. Most involvement occurs following a report of concern or referral from professionals, whānau, or the community.
