Boil Water Notice: Stoneburn and Awahokomo Water Supplies

On Display Indefinitely

Consumers on the STONEBURN and AWAHOKOMO Water Supplies are advised to BOIL WATER until further notice.

The cryptosporidium outbreak in Queenstown has highlighted the vulnerabilities of water supplies with surface water takes (not groundwater) that do not have any treatment barrier for protozoa, such as cryptosporidium. The above supply fits within this category.

A risk assessment will be completed in the coming weeks to determine the likelihood of a cryptosporidium contamination event and mitigation measures required (if any) to protect public health should it occur. In the meantime, a precautionary BOIL WATER NOTICE is being issued.

A Boil Water Notice means water (hot and cold) from any tap connected to the water supply must not be used for drinking, making up baby formula and juices, cooking, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, or brushing teeth. For these purposes use either boiled water or bottled water.
