To investigate the option of public ownership of sewer laterals. Currently, property owners own the section of sewer lateral in roads between the property boundary and the sewer main.
Why are we doing this? Currently, sewer laterals within the road reserve are privately owned, which most ratepayers are unaware of. If a breakage or blockage occurs the individual ratepayer is responsible for rectifying the problem at their cost, which is often many thousands of dollars. The proposal is to identify if public ownership of sewer laterals is more appropriate and better supports the needs and aspirations of our community.
