There will be a planned water shutdown to the Homestead Road area on Tuesday 27 October. Customers should have three days supply on-hand, and the shutdown is only planned for that day. More info and a map of properties in the area available below.

A new stormwater pipeline for the northern end of Ōamaru’s CBD will increase the capacity of the network for the area.
Work will begin on October 27 to install 250 metres of 900mm diameter concrete stormwater pipe in Thames St (SH1) from north of Dee Street to Ribble St, where it connects with the existing stormwater line in Ribble St leading to the sea.
This will double the capacity of the stormwater network in this area.
Inspection work after the July 2026 rain event revealed damage to the Ōamaru Stone culverts beneath Thames St, likely caused by the 1-in-30-year rain event.
The replacement of these pipes was not in the work programme for 2026-27 renewals and this work has been brought forward from the 10-year programme as a new priority.
New mud-tanks, sumps and manholes will be installed at the same time – and the existing box culverts will be sealed off. The new concrete piping will be on a new alignment, and Council has worked with NZTA Waka Kotahi to approve its location under State Highway 1 and manage connecting NZTA Waka Kotahi stormwater drains and tanks.
This project follows a smaller job in June 2026. Then, contractors replaced a section of the 1910s stone culvert in Ribble Street with new concrete pipe, that is informing this new project scope.
Businesses have been provided with information regarding this work which is expected to take 7 weeks.
Parking between Northbound and Southbound lanes under the trees will not be available while the work is being done, but kerbside parking and access to businesses will be unaffected.
