Tamariki can learn about Aotearoa New Zealand’s newest public holiday Matariki, as they follow the Storybook Trail along the Ōamaru Harbour Area.

Together in Love: A Legend of Matariki woven and illustrated by Xoë Hall tells the story of the loving embrace between Ranginui and Papatūānuki which keeps the lands in constant darkness.

Installation is this week, and it will be set up throughout the school holidays so you and your tamariki have time to get active and learn more about Matariki.

Together in Love: A Legend of Matariki is also available for borrowing from the Waitaki District Library where there will also be various events run in the lead up to Friday 24th June.

Visitors to the library will be welcome to add a star to Te Rākau Tūmanako, a tree of hope for the new year. Rapua ngā Whetu – find the Matariki stars around the library and take home a taonga. From 3.30pm – 4.30pm on Rāhina / Monday 20th June and Rātū / Tuesday 21st there are also stories, waiata and craft available in the library’s tamariki area.
