Oamaru will get the chance to meet one of Waitaki’s most successful sporting stars next Wednesday, as four time WMX Motocross World Champion Courtney Duncan pays a visit to the town.
Hailing from Palmerston, Ms Duncan won her first WMX Motorcross world title in 2019 and successfully defended it in 2020 and 2021, before regaining the title in 2023.
Mayor Gary Kircher says, “We’ve wanted to celebrate Courtney’s amazing achievements as a Waitaki sporting icon for some time, and we’re pleased to host her in Oamaru this week. She’s one of our own, and deserves a warm welcome from our community for her incredible success”
“It’s great that Courtney is the best in the world at what she does, but wants to share her experiences and success with the young people of our district. She is a truly great Waitakian, and we are all very proud of her”
The visit will begin at 4pm on Wednesday November 15th near the Oamaru Bike Park at the Oamaru Harbour. The community are invited to celebrate Ms Duncan’s success and she will give a talk about her career in Motocross and take part in a Q & A session.
There will also be a chance for fans to have their gear signed, and get a photo with the world champion and her 2023 trophy.
On Thursday November 16th Ms Duncan will be visiting Five Forks School, Fenwick School and Oamaru Intermediate to talk to the students and answer their questions.
