Today the Mayor and Councillors took part in a public workshop relating to the development of its Water Services Delivery Plan (WSDP).

Representatives from the Department of Internal Affairs attended to provide additional information and context on what will be considered for a WSDP, including the financial sustainability requirements. This included that the Commerce Commission regulation would be focused on price, quality of service, and future financial sustainability.

Council’s Finance Team then presented information about the development of an In-House Business Unit Water Services Delivery Plan, including how including waters continuing in-house after 1 July 2027 affects investment, debt and rates for the Waitaki District.

Last week, Council received a letter from DIA requesting a Draft WSDP by Thursday 31 July 2025, so they could provide feedback.

A recording of the meeting, with chapter points for each section, the presentation given by Council’s Finance Team, and the letter from the DIA are all available on Council’s website now.

Council encourages the community to watch the videos, read the presentation and the letter from the DIA to be fully informed about the development of the WSDP.
