Instead of going into Council Head Office at 20 Thames Street for enquiries and Council services, you can pop into Ōamaru Library at 62 Thames Street during the week or on a Saturday morning.
Over the last two weeks we have noticed and been made aware of some issues with the maps and ePlan tool that resulted in property reports and various layers not displaying. This has now been rectified and we encourage you to recheck the maps and lodge a submission.Council recently agreed to extend the submission period by a week, from 9 May to 16 May 2025.

It was agreed at this weeks Council meeting to support the St John (Ōamaru) Development Project with grant funding of up to $65,000.00. This funding will cover the costs of the Resource Consent, Development Contributions and Building Consent, when the actual costs are known.
St John’s plan to develop a new operational hub that will support the growing Waitaki district population, and allow it to respond to major incidents and medical emergencies, as well as providing community space for public first aid training and youth programmes. Earlier this year St John was gifted a parcel of land on the corner of SH1 and Weston Road by Ray and Janice Walker. St John is now in the early design, planning and funding application phase of the new development. The new development also needs to be included within the Waitaki District Plan.
Waitaki District Council Chief Executive, Alex Parmley said, “Council recognises the service that St John provide to the community in times of need and supports the ambition to have a facility that will serve our communities well into the future. We look forward to supporting our local St John team with the necessary improvements to their facility.”
