Council is pleased to announce that Whitestone Contracting Limited has been awarded the Roading maintenance Contract after a rigorous tender process. Whitestone Contract Limited will begin undertaking roading maintenance activities for Waitaki District Council on 1 October 2022.

The contract has an initial term of five years, with the possibility of two one-year extensions. The contract has an approximate annual spend of $5.2m.

The tender process saw three contractors submit expressions of interest before being invited to submit a tender with two tenders received. The assessment of the tenders was undertaken over a two-week period in a robust process that was overseen by staff, independents, and Councillors. As well as looking to ensure value for money, the process agreed by Councillors, also assessed tenders on their contribution to the district, including the local economy. We were extremely impressed with the tenders submitted.

Whitestone Contracting Ltd CEO Paul Bisset said, “The contract will provide growth opportunities for the company, which will in turn provide further support to the local economy by using local subcontractors and suppliers, employing locals, and creating pathways into the industry for local youth, along with other socioeconomic outcomes.”

This year Whitestone Contracting celebrated 30 years in business with the company currently employing around one hundred people in its Ōamaru, Fairlie, Twizel, Cromwell, Queenstown, Alexandra, and Dunedin depots.

Mike Harrison, Waitaki District Council Roading Manager said, “I am excited to have the partnership with Whitestone Contracting to maintain the Waitaki District 1800km of roading network. The new contract partnership offers innovation through collaboration for delivering service levels to the community, within the constraints of the challenges of operational funding boundaries, environmental changes, and the dynamic road user needs and expectations.”
