The Chief Executive of Waitaki District Council, Alex Parmley, has welcomed Melanie Tavendale as Mayor-elect for the Waitaki District following the release of Progress Results of the 2025 Local Government Elections.

"While these are not the final results, I'd like to welcome the Mayor-Elect and thank all of those candidates who put themselves forward to represent their community either for Mayor, Councillor or Community Board.

We'd also like to thank Waitaki's voters, who have kept democracy strong and chosen the governance team for their Council for the next three years. Given todays votes are yet to be counted, we expect over 50% turnout"

Progress results cover all ordinary votes cast up until Friday 10 October, or about 85% of total votes cast.

Votes cast on Saturday 11 October will be counted this afternoon, and a Preliminary Result will be announced later today or before 4pm on Sunday. This may mean some changes to results.

Special votes will then be counted, which may also change the Preliminary Result.

A final result will be announced before Thursday 16 October. This will be the final result.
