Waitaki Aquatic Centre has been busy for the first week of the school holidays, with block swimming lessons attracting families from as far as Twizel and Central Otago District.

With around 101 learners in the pool for two sessions a day this week, it’s been a splashing good time for the only swim school in the District. The holiday block courses double up to ensure that the young swimmers get a terms worth of swim learning in one week.

Leah Stringer, Facility Manager at the Aquatic Centre says: “These holiday block lessons are popular in the Easter, Spring and Summer terms – especially for families with children who don’t have year-round access to a pool or swimming lessons.

Having the centre so busy means more kids learning, and safer swimmers for life. It’s great to see our talented swim school be so popular, in Waitaki and beyond!”

But the fun doesn’t stop there. Next Tuesday 23 April the pool will be hosting the Awesome Autumn Pool Party between 1pm and 4pm.

There’ll be inflatables in the main pool and learner pool, party music, longest platform jump, a birdman contest and the lucky ball scramble prize.
