Waste Minimisation mahi continues for our Waste Free Waitaki team. Next up is free workshops looking at the global issue of organics going to landfill and how you can help combat this at home.

“Food waste going to landfill is a big contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions. If food waste were a country, it would rank right up there are one of the worst greenhouse gas emitters. But we can all make a difference to this, at the same time as creating a wonderful soil additive. It is a win-win situation. Come along to the workshops and we will give you the low-down on how.” says Lucianne White.

Session one called “Get Kai Creative” presented by Lucianne White is all about the bigger picture. Getting organics out of landfill, why this is important, setting up a system that works for you and the ‘dirt’ on different organic systems, as well as information on the transforming world of waste in New Zealand. This session is great for those who want to deep dive into the fascinating world of waste and the overall picture of our food scraps challenges in New Zealand.

Session two is called “Create Your Own Green Gold” - a hands-on session at the Waitaki Community Gardens all about turning your food scraps into green gold through becoming a composting, bokashi and worm farm whizz. This event is hosted by local experts Sophia León de la Barra and Ra McRostie and will be perfect for people embarking on creating an organics system the first time or wanting to perfect their established techniques.
