From July 1 changes to Ōamaru CBD parking, agreed upon last month by the Mayor and Councillors, will come into effect.

The following four changes will begin from July 1, 2026:

  • Paid parking hours will run from 9:30am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday and 9:30am to 1pm on Saturday.

  • If you park during these paid parking hours, you will need to pay by app or at a meter immediately upon parking.

  • Parking fee charges have not changed and remain at $1 per half hour.

  • A free parking permit for over-80s will also be available, and we will inform you when applications open for this scheme.

After May’s meeting, Council immediately implemented free parking for CCS Mobility Permit holders. Permit holders can park for free in any Ōamaru CBD space, but must display their permits.

Additional revenue from paid parking in the Ōamaru CBD is placed into the Ōamaru Business Rate fund and used to offset business rates in the area. The changes agreed today will lead to an estimated $170,000 surplus which can be used for this purpose.
