Waitaki District Council is reminding ratepayers who are eligible for a rebate to make their application by the 30 June 2024 deadline.

Council staff have already identified over 300 ratepayers who are believed to be eligible for a rebate this year, and have posted forms to them in the last week.

Rates rebates can be calculated via the Rates Rebate Calculator provided by the Government. The rebate is applied to the combined total of Waitaki District Council rates, and the Otago Regional Council or Environment Canterbury rates.

Forms can be collected from the counter at Waitaki District Council’s Thames Street office, and Council is happy to send one out to anyone who enquires by phone or email.

The amount of rebate you receive is income dependent, with rebates beginning at those earning $43,751 receiving $187 in rebate, through to those earning $39,251 or less receiving a $750 rebate.

Proof of income is required as part of the application process, and this can be provided by WINZ or be found by totalling your payslips for the year, or logging in to Inland Revenue’s MyIRD site.

It does not matter if you are behind on your rates, you can still apply for the rebate for the 2023/24 financial year by Sunday 30 June 2024.
