Pack a picnic, grab the togs, load up a deck chair, a picnic blanket, buckets, spades, hats, suncream, water, a change of clothes and get ready for a day out. Oh, and do not forget the kids!

The Friendly Bay Family Fun Day is back for 2023 and is set to be another fantastic day out for the whole family.

This year’s event will see the return of many old favourites including the beach dig, beach flag races and a sandcastle competition. We will also have live music and food stalls serving up delicious goodies across the day.

Waitaki Mayor, Gary Kircher said, “The Friendly Bay Family Day is another event which we were unable to hold last year due to the risks of Covid, so we are super-excited to be holding it again this year! This free event focused on families and our tamariki is a must do in many families’ social calendar and we cannot wait to welcome them back to this year’s event. This is an excellent opportunity for youngsters to win prizes, get their face painted, have multiple turns on the big inflatable slide, a go on the kayaks and the Lion’s Club Noddy Train - all for free!”

Held at Friendly Bay alongside the Steampunk playground, Waitaki District Councils Parks Team is looking forward to supporting the event which coincides with Parks Week, an Australasian event held from 4-12 March 2023.

Waitaki District Council Recreation Officer, David McFarlane said, “Parks Week is all about the vital role parks play in creating liveable and thriving communities. We are thrilled to support the Friendly Bay Family Fun Day for another year and cannot wait to join in the fun.”

Spending time in our parks and open spaces positively influences our wellbeing and this family event is sure to support that for our wonderful community. Put it in your diary and we look forward to seeing you there!
