Community housing rents in the Waitaki District will increase by $8.50 per week across all properties from later this year.
This is the annual adjustment of rents to take into account increases in rates levied, insurance costs and the maintenance and upkeep of green spaces around the Council owned rentals.
For most residents, this rise will take place later this year. However for those with less than 1 year in their property, it will be brought in on the anniversary of their tenancy.
Waitaki District Council is working with tenants and the Ministry of Social Development to adjust their payments automatically, or set up a Direct Debit that can be managed efficiently.
The Tenant Satisfaction survey for 2023/2024 indicated 97% of tenants are satisfied or very satisfied with their tenancy as a percentage of all tenancies.
