Dog registration fees set to rise for 2025/26 Published on 28 May 2025 At yesterday’s full meeting of the Waitaki District Council, the Mayor and Councillors approved an increase in dog registration and related fees for dog owners in the Waitaki District.Council has set Animal Management’s cost structure at 100% user pays, to ensure ratepayers do not subsidise these services.This will apply for all dog owners in the District. It's A Dogs Life in Waitaki Published on 17 December 2024 Today Waitaki District Council approved the new Dog Control By-law and an amended Dog Control Policy.After an engagement and consultation period that began in December 2023, the new by-law includes a 6-month trial allowing dogs on-lead to be walked in the Oamaru CBD, North End shops area and on Harbour Street between sunrise and sunset. Mayor & Councillors scale down capital works budget for 2024/25 Published on 17 December 2024 At today’s meeting of Waitaki District Council the Mayor & Councillors agreed to a reduction of $19,826,377 in borrowing for the remaining financial year.These reductions were as a result of Councillors requesting officers review projects in the 2024/25 Enhanced Annual Plan and those projects carried forward from the 2023/24 Annual Plan, to ensure Council kept to the approved external borrowing.
