Next week at Council – 31 March 2026
Published on 26 March 2026
The second full meeting of the Waitaki District Council for 2026 will take place at Council Chambers from 11am next Tuesday. The agenda, published this week and available online now, covers a range of issues including the following;
Request from Waihemo Community Board, Hampden School and Hampden Energy Trust
The Waihemo Community Board has recommended Council allow the construction of a car park on land owned by Council opposite Hampden School. This site currently contains an effluent field for nearby housing, which requires some maintenance.
The Mayor and Councillors will consider the recommendation, alongside information from Council officers.
Chief Executive’s Report
Council will receive the Chief Executives report for the previous quarter, including progress on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Council and the Chief Executive and an outline of the various reforms and plans which are required by Council, or by central Government, in 2026 and 2027.
The Key Performance Indicators (KPI)s are set by the Mayor and Councillors, as part of their governance and strategic direction for Waitaki District Council. They have been, and will continue to be, published in the quarterly Chief Executive report to Council.
Appointment of Hearing Panel for District Plan
Late last year Minister Chris Bishop approved exemptions for parts of its proposed District Plan, allowing them to continue to a further submissions and hearing stage.
The Mayor and Councillors will consider the appointment of a Chair, Commissioner and back-up/alternative Commissioner or Chair to lead the panel of Councillors Linwood, Hopkins, Thelning and Cowles.
