Inauguration of 12th Waitaki District Council and Community Boards

The confirmed results of the 2022 Local Elections have been announced and the Elected Members of the 12th Waitaki District Council have been confirmed.
We congratulate Mayor-elect Gary Kircher and Councillors-elect Tim Blackler, Brent Cowles, Hana Halalele, Jeremy Holding, Jim Hopkins, Courtney Linwood, John McCone, Guy Percival, Rebecca Ryan, and Jim Thomson who collectively make up the 12th Waitaki District Council.
The Election Member Induction Programme has commenced which includes Councillors-elect meeting with Mayor-elect Gary Kircher and Waitaki District Council Chief Executive, Alex Parmley.
“Our community was given some very good options for a number of the contests around the Waitaki district, and I am pleased with their choices for Councillors! It is a shame that some other great candidates had to miss out, but that is the nature of elections. Our initial meetings have gone well, and I am keen to allocate roles and responsibilities which make the most of the skills, experience, and attributes that each Councillor brings to the table. I’m sure we will build an effective team to serve Waitaki well over the next three years.”
The Inauguration of the 12th Waitaki District Council will take place on Tuesday 25 October at the Ōamaru Opera House Auditorium from 5.30pm – 7.00pm. This is a public event, with all welcome. The Mayor and each Councillor will take their Oath of Declaration at this event and official photographs will be taken.
The Official Inauguration will be livestreamed on Council’s YouTube page, and the link to the event will be advised on the Waitaki District Council Facebook page closer to the time.
The Inauguration of the Ahuriri Community Board will take place in the Council Chamber at 2.00pm on Tuesday 1 November 2022, and the Inauguration of the Waihemo Community Board will take place at 6.00pm on Monday 7 November 2022 in the Waihemo Service Centre in Palmerston. Both events will be livestreamed, and links to the events will be added to the Facebook page closer to the time.
The first meeting of the 12th Waitaki District Council is scheduled for 9am, Tuesday 1 November 2022.
