Who are we looking for?

The Council is looking for driven, talented and passionate people who care about communities and improving the lives of those living here in the Waitaki District. You will bring skills from one of a very wide range of topic areas, including:

  • Business studies, accounting and finance
  • Engineering
  • Biological and physical sciences
  • Economic development
  • Marketing and communications
  • IT and computer science
  • Planning, urban design and environmental management
  • The arts and film production
  • Political sciences
  • Tourism
  • Food and health sciences
  • Culture and heritage
  • Social media
  • Community support

To be considered you must be at least in your second to last year of a Bachelor's Degree, or in postgraduate study, in any relevant discipline.

  • You must have achieved at least a B+ grade average in all attempted courses
  • Depending on which department you will be working in you may need a current and full New Zealand driver's licence or an international licence

  • You are able to support yourself for travel and living costs (excluding accommodation that we will provide)

  • For international students, you must be eligible to work in New Zealand (NZ Immigration criteria).  Please check the New Zealand Immigration website for the rules which apply to you.

We want students who are reasonably self-reliant and who have some life experience – anything from work experience, pursuing sporting, cultural or artistic interests, through to community involvement. 

We are looking for:

  • Students who work well in teams, as well as on their own

  • Students who have great written and verbal communication skills.  For students for whom English is a second language, proficiency above an IELTS level of 6.5 would be required
