Although it closed to shipping in 1974, and is a registered historic place, Oamaru Harbour remains a busy and vibrant part of Oamaru.
The harbour provides basic infrastructure for the local fishing industry and recreational users, with Council maintaining the wharves, breakwater and retaining wall structures. We also operate the harbour moorings, wharf berths and the slipway.
For information on Oamaru Harbour boat ramps please visit North Otago Yacht and Power Boat Club website as they manage them.
The harbour and surrounding area cater for activities ranging from fishing and commercial activities, to boating and other recreation. It’s also home to international tourist attraction, the Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony.
