Oamaru Refuse Transfer Station

Waste management is an essential service and we are putting measures in place to ensure services will be available, although please note these will be limited. ​

​​​​​​​While New Zealand is on Alert Level 4, Oamaru's Waste Management Refuse Station will only accept waste from essential services and will only be open Monday to Friday​, 8am-5pm.

  • You will not be able to drop household rubbish bags off at the Waitaki Resource Recovery Park or the Waste Management Refuse Station in Oamaru​​
  • If you don’t currently have a kerbside rubbish collection service, please call one of the following businesses directly to organise this - Awamoa bins on 034349445; WasteCo on 0800 341 11 11; or Waste Management on 03 434 0031 (wait and push option 3)

The Oamaru Refuse Transfer Station is owned and operated by Waste Management NZ Limited. It replaces the Oamaru Landfill, which closed in April 2017.

​​Monday to Friday​8am - 5pm
​Saturday​9am - 5pm​
​ ​Refuse Transfer Station is closed on Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Good Friday and ​ANZAC morning (until 1pm.)

  • Charges for disposing of waste at the transfer station are set by Waste Management.

  • All payments to be made at Refuse Transfer Station using EFTPOS, credit card or account (prior arrangement required). 

​Waste types accepted​
  • All dry general waste (if you have wet or special waste, please contact Waste Management who will advise you on how best to manage this)

  •  Recyclables: Plastic, cardboard, paper and metal cans (if you have items which may be reusable or other recyclable items please take these to the Waitaki Resource Recovery Park on Chelmer Street). For more information please go to Waitaki Resource Recovery Park page​.
