What do we do when snow strikes

Our contractor will monitor road conditions, keep us informed and we will update our road conditions page. During snow events constant vigilance is essential.

Once snow has stopped falling for 12 hours and no further snow is forecast for 24 hours we will start clearing roads. We do, however, have a road classification or hierarchy system in place so that the most heavily used roads are cleared first. This hierarchy-based system is detailed below:

Waihemo ward

Clearance work underway within 24 hours

Clearance work underway within 48 hours

Roads cleared to single lane within 72 hours

The exception is where Oceana Gold maintains Golden Bar Road, Macraes Road from Shag Valley Back Road to the mine and 2kms of Golden Point Road from Macraes Road. Oceana Gold may clear the snow on these sections at their discretion.

Ahuriri Ward Lake

Clearance work underway within 24 hours.

Roads cleared within 72 hours.

Roads cleared within 72 hours.

Rural property owners are encouraged to keep up-to-date with weather forecasts and make the necessary provisions for three days. This may also mean moving stock to an accessible location or arrange for alternative methods of attending to stock. Emergency services should be contacted for emergency assistance.
