Libraries

COVID-19 Update:

Update: 9.00am 01 April 2020

All libraries in our district are closed and will remain closed until Waitaki is back to Level 1.

There is now no wi-fi available at the Ōamaru, Palmerston & Kurow libraries. This is not something we wanted to do as we know how many people rely on this in our communities.

However, this has been directed by the National Library who play a role in providing this services after requests from Civil Defence representatives and Police. This service has been stopped to prevent people from gathering around these public spaces during Alert Level Four thereby increasing the risk of exposure to COVID-19.

  • This means it is not available outside our already-closed buildings
  • Our WiFi services will return when the all-clear is given
  • Stay safe, stay home

The Library staff will be working on options to enhance electronic services and available by phone for support and guidance with electronic offerings. If you have any items borrowed from the library you can renew them online or give the library a ring on the phone number below.

All After Hour Bins are now closed. Please keep all library items in your home until Libraries are open again.

All current and future item issues (books, DVDs, Fiction Rentals, etc.) now have a loan period of 6 weeks with three, 4 weekly renewals if you do it yourself online. However, if you are unable to do that, please keep what you take out for as long as the Pandemic Response Plan (PRP) is in place. The library system has been set to renew books issued before Friday 20 March until 28 April 2020.

There are no overdue fines and fees incurring.

Online services are available at www.library.waitaki.govt.nz.

If you need help accessing online services, please either email us: library@waitaki.govt.nz or ring Oamaru Library directly on 03 433 0850 and leave a message if there is no answer.  One of our team will get back to you as soon as they can, but please be aware there may be some delay in doing so.

As more information comes to hand it will be shared via the Waitaki Libraries Facebook page.
