In July 2018 the Council confirmed it would pause this project to enable it to be reviewed in light of significant new opportunities arising from the creation of the Provincial Growth Fund by the national government and the proposed Waitaki Whitestone Geopark.

Stage 2 Water Main Renewals - South Hill Area​

Water mains in the South Hill area are being renewed in four stages. Stage 1 began in February 2017 and was recently completed.​ Once completed, the main renewals will help improve water quality and pressure in the South Hill area and reduce the risk of supply failure in the future.​

Water supply upgrade

We have opened a pipeline from Oamaru to Hampden to deliver high drinking quality water to communities in Herbert, Waianakarua, Hampden and Moeraki.  ​​​​​

Waitaki Whitestone Geopark

The New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO has shortlisted the ‘Waitaki Whitestone Geopark’ as its preferred candidate for UNESCO Global Geopark status in New Zealand. The Waitaki Whitestone Geopark Trust Deed was signed on Monday, August 13, 2018.​
