At today's emergency meeting council voted for a nil increase in rates.

Mayor for Waitaki, Gary Kircher said, "We've asked council officers to work with us to achieve this. There's been a lot of pressures go on, and while anything we do now will create a bigger impact down the line, we'll deal with that then. It's important to give people as much certainty as possible. As a result of this decision and the COVID-19 lockdown and its impact, we won't be consulting on the Annual Plan this year as not everyone will be able to participate, plus any anticipated rates increase is now not going to happen. Plus I think everyone's got better things to do at the moment."

The council's support and stimulus fund was also set up today and the Masterplans for Otematata and Omarama agreed upon. All decisions will be put up on our website as soon as we're able.
