Waitaki Lakes Camping season opening soon

It’s Waitaki Lakes camping time again

A chance to camp like its 1974, with fewer moustaches and more vegetarians; the Waitaki Lakes are a place for those who yearn for holidays the way they used to be (OK dad’s legs in Stubbies weren’t for everyone). If you enjoy affordable, back-to-basics camping in stunning surroundings, then get yourself to one of the Waitaki Lakes Camping sites, due to open again soon for a season of sun and skipping stones from Saturday 15th of September 2018 to Sunday the 5th of May 2019.

The ultimate in old-school camping, the sites are sunny and sheltered, with weeping willows trailing in the water, lovely grassy areas to pitch a tent at camping grounds including Parsons Rock, Boat Harbour, Sailors Cutting and Falstone Creek.

Pitch your tent on the sunny side of lakes Aviemore and Benmore for a retro rewind to a time when your cell phone didn’t chirp with work every 5 seconds, dinner was cooked, and eaten, al fresco, and the only noise at night was a cool breeze on the lake and children being children. Council offers six kiwi-style camping grounds in the beautiful Waitaki Lakes area which provide easy access to the lakes, rivers, local townships (Kurow, Otematata, Omarama and Twizel), a golf course, playgrounds, and walking and cycling tracks.

Season Passes are available now from customer service at Waitaki District Council offices, Oamaru, and once the season opens, from registration booths at campsites. Fees for casual camping are be paid on arrival at registration booths.

Visit the Waitaki Lakes Camping page of this website for more information about campsites, fees and passes.
