Council applied to the second round of Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s (MBIE) second round of Tourism Infrastructure Funding (TIF) for funding support for a new toilet block at Otematata. The application was successful.
Officers have had discussions with the Ahuriri Community Board and assessed options for the location of a replacement toilet block.
Location
We think the best place for the toilet block is at the entrance to the Otematata Domain from the Lakes Centre Car Park. (Option 3 - Refer to map)
| OPTIONS | FOR | AGAINST |
1 | Existing site | | - Distance from Lakes Centre
- Not as obvious to tourist traffic
- Further away from potential future business area
|
2 | In front of the Lakes Centre
| - Close to existing carparks and shops.
- Obvious to tourist traffic.
| - May result in parking on SH83
- Further from Playground.
|
3 | At the entrance to the Otematata Domain from the Lakes Centre Car Park | - Close to existing carparks and shops.
- Obvious to tourist traffic.
- Central to possible business area.
| - Further from Playground.
|
4 | On the North side of SH83 | | - Requires crossing of Road.
- Requires use of Golf Course land.
- Away from Business Area.
|
The existing facility would be removed.

Style
We think a triple cubicle Exeloo similar to this picture is a suitable option. This has a reinforced concrete base, manual operation with tough sheet linings and aluminum swing doors.
Note: Concrete exterior can be painted in any colour or alternative cladding attached.
