ANZAC Day Services for Waitaki: tightened security but schedule remains unchanged

Mayor for Waitaki, Gary Kircher this morning reassured residents that there was currently no intention to change the schedule of ANZAC day services in the district. “Council has been working with Police to provide a heightened level of security.”

“There are measures in place,” he said, “some of them will be more visible than others, and while there will never be an absolutely safe option in such cases, reasonable caution is required as we pay our respects to those who gave their lives for our freedom.”

There will be a number of ANZAC Day services across the Waitaki district on Thursday 25 April. There will also be a posy laying service at the Oamaru Services Cemetery at 3.30pm, Wednesday 24 April.

Wreaths will be laid at all services and medals and hats may be worn. Medals of deceased Service personnel may be worn by family members on their right-hand lapel. All members of the community are welcome to attend.
