A Covid Testing Clinic is scheduled to be held next Saturday 12th September from 10am - 3pm at Athies Rugby carpark.

It will be drive through testing clinic run with the aid of volunteers.

The Ministry of Health have given Wellsouth and SDHB a directive to focus on Pacific, Maori, healthcare workers and basically anyone that wants to be tested.

Councillor Hana Halalele would be volunteering on the day and said the organisers had endeavoured to get the word out to members of the Fijian community, the Tuvalu community and tangata whenua but ideally all should feel welcome to take part and support each other.

"We found that at the last testing clinic especially at Alliance, our Pacific people felt comfortable with having our local people around to be able to help with translating and support if need be and familiar faces.  Our target for the Oamaru testing is approx 450 people so will be great to have this met and it is open for all non Pacific as well."

Mayor Gary Kircher would be volunteering too and said that while he often got up peoples noses, this was a chance to do that in a good way.
