Severn Street wall replacement options

Council is Surveying the public on Severn Street Wall Replacement Options

Background: Council is sought feedback from the Community over options available to replace failed parts of the Severn Street Wall in Oamaru and thoughts on an alternative single tier wall and the facing that is most desirable. There will be beautifying landscaping completed once the building works are complete.

Results from the online survey run between the 18th of March and 12th of April 2019 will be collated and presented to Council for decision.

The walls are 80 years old but generally still sound which means we can either simply replace the unsound sections OR fully replace the whole of the wall.

A single tier wall, if people prefer it, will be all new as it will be built between the existing walls.

but you can still read the options below:

  • A. Full replacement of two tiers of walls with Oamaru stone facing  (fig.2)
  • B. New single tier wall with Oamaru stone facing (fig.3)
  • C. Part replacement of two tiers of walls with Oamaru stone facing (only those sections that have or likely to fall) (like fig.2)
  • D. Full replacement of two tiers of walls coloured as Oamaru stone (fig.2)
  • E. New single tier wall coloured as Oamaru stone (like fig.3)
  • F. Part replacement of two tiers of walls coloured as Oamaru stone (like fig.2)

The estimated costings will be presented to Council along with the survey feedback to assist their decision-making. A guideline of relative costings is given below:
