COVID-19 information

Most COVID-19 rules have ended in New Zealand. The COVID-19 Protection Framework (the ‘traffic lights’) has now been removed. More information is available at www.covid19.govt.nz

Masks are no longer required when visiting Council facilities but if you feel more comfortable wearing a mask, please continue to do so.

Summary of changes to COVID-19 restrictions in New Zealand:

  • All capacity limits have been removed
  • Any distinction between indoor and outdoor spaces no longer applies
  • All remaining Government vaccine mandates will now end. Some employers may still require workers to be vaccinated due to their responsibilities under health and safety legislation.
  • Mandatory seven-day self-isolation of COVID-19 cases is retained
  • Household contacts are no longer required to isolate. New guidance around testing applies instead
  • Face coverings are now only mandatory in healthcare settings. However, they are recommended if:
    • you are a household contact of a case;
    • you are at a higher risk of severe illness;
    •  you want to reduce your risk of becoming unwell;
    • there are many vulnerable people present at an indoor space; or
    • you are in a crowded indoor space where you cannot physically distance.
  • Vaccination and testing requirements for all travellers arriving into New Zealand have also ended. People arriving in New Zealand from overseas will continue to receive free RATs at the airport and will be encouraged to test on day 0/1 and 5/6.
