Waitaki District Council is pleased to receive further support from the MBIE Tourism Infrastructure Fund. This support recognises the importance of investment in the district’s tourism infrastructure and helps Waitaki to mitigate the impacts of tourism without placing an onerous burden on ratepayers. Waitaki District Council has received $505,000 in the latest round of funding to support construction of a new carpark and safety improvements at Elephant Rocks; install a new toilet and undertake safety improvements in Duntroon; and upgrade parking at Oamaru Harbour. Recreation Manager Erik van der Spek said more details would be available after liaison with various stakeholders.

Economic Development Manager Gerard Quinn said, “I welcome government investment into our district, and these projects will be a great boon for locals and visitors alike and will be consistent with the values and intent of our destination management strategy.”
