Following the development of a draft Spatial Plan for Ōamaru, Weston and Kakanui, public engagement on the Plan will run from the 11th October - 19th November. The Plan sets out initial ideas of how development could happen in these areas over the next 30+ years.  The draft Plan was developed with Kai Tahu and informed by consultation with multiple stakeholders, as well as utilising data gathered on current trends and growth expectations.

From Monday 11 October there will be several ways to engage:

  • Take a look at the draft Spatial Plan
  • Complete the online feedback form
  • Send us an email with your feedback
  • Come along and talk to us at our open days

At the open days, you can come along to ask questions, share your thoughts and provide feedback. Come along and see us at one of the following sessions:

    • 12.15pm – 2.15pm
    • 7.00pm – 9.00pm

Mayor Gary Kircher is pleased with the draft Plan. “The Plan is a cohesive strategy which allows for managed growth and focuses on a range of aspects to make Ōamaru and its satellite townships become even better places to live. Your feedback is important to shaping the future of Ōamaru, Weston and Kakanui, with the Plan being modified to reflect what our community wants to see happen here.”

All the feedback received will be considered in the development of the final Spatial Plan, with the final Plan expected to be adopted in early 2022.
